One of the most common mistakes that independent artists make when releasing a new album is being unprepared and rushing through the process of uploading their music to an aggregator.
By aggregator, I mean a digital distribution aggregator like CD Baby, TuneCore, or SpinnUp just to name a few of the more popular ones.
Digital music aggregators get your music distributed across multiple digital platforms, like Spotify, Pandora, iTunes, etc….
They also handle the paperwork involved. If some of the tracks on your album are cover songs, they’ll obtain the mechanical license to distribute royalties to the copyright owners.
And they obtain UPC and ISRC codes for you. I’ll explain what those are in the video below.
Uploading your music to a digital distribution aggregator is a simple and inexpensive process. But it’s a very important one, so you want to make sure that you have every thing that you need ready before go to upload your master.
If you don’t, it could cause you some hassles.
So that’s why I’ve put together a checklist that you can follow to make sure that you have everything in order, before you go to upload your music to a digital aggregator.
I cover each of the items in the above video, but if you’d like a copy of this checklist in PDF form for future reference, simply Click Here to download your copy for free.
